Boxing has always been work to me, a job. If I could say anything to a youngster taking up boxing it would be to "be smart and not take a lot of punches". It's called the sweet science for a reason. Hit and not be hit, make a lot of money without taking a lot of punishment. That's what it's about.
I've truly been blessed. I've taken my time, kept my eye on the prize and done what I've had to do. So I'm able to make a choice when to retire. Most fighters really couldn't.
Everywhere I go, I will make a good payday. But we got to choose the right opponent and the right time and the right venue.
It's about having personality...it's not about being the bad guy, it's about entertaining people.
Hard work, dedication!
People have said things about me, and wrote and criticized me about things in the past, but it goes in one ear and out the other.
Floyd Mayweather is bigger than the sport. That's the thing. Because you can go to somebody who don't even know what boxing is and say, "Floyd Mayweather." They'll go, "Oh, I know Floyd Mayweather. I've heard that name."
When God wants me to lose, then that's when I'll lose. But until then, I'm going to be at the top of my game and keep working hard anddedicating myself to the sport of boxing and to being the best entertainer that I can be.
You hear certain things, negative things, all the time that aren't true, but you never hear about the positive.
You have to realize that most of these guys get in there and fight on heart. I fight with smarts. There is no fighter that is smarter than me. Most of these fighters are ABC, 1-2-3. I am like 4-5-6 levels above them; that's why I'm able to beat them.
I've set the model of showing fighters how they should conduct their business.
I land a higher percentage of punches than any boxer in boxing.
I don't adjust my training for any of my opponents. I don't watch films on my opponents.
Boxing is real easy. Life is much harder.
To be honest with you, I normally beat guys with my C game and I don't have to pull my A or B game out.
You stick to commentating, let me do the fighting.
I'm a man of my word.
Every day as a kid, I went to the boxing gym. I knew boxing before I knew anything else. And I was once told if you show your child how to do something and you constantly push them, then eventually they'll become masters. They'll become a master of their craft. So that's probably what happened with me and the sport of boxing.
A lot of times, in the beginning of my career, I put pressure on myself just because I wanted to perform so well. I just wanted to be perfect.
A lot of the time when I go to church, people want to take pictures. They want you to sign autographs. So I don't go all the time. I go once in a blue moon. Every once in a blue moon.
I don't fight for legacy. I don't fight for none of that, I fight for that check. I'm in the check cashing business.
I don't talk about my personal life - or what I do with no females. Just know that I love women. A lot.
I've been in the sport of boxing for a long time, but I haven't been able to bring my 'A-game' totally out. I've beaten fighters with my 'C-Game' and with my 'D-Game,' but I haven't been able to beat anybody with my 'A-Game.'
Bob arum is Manny Pacquiao's boss, Floyd Mayweather is his own boss.
All the money I have, I got it legally.
