We did receive some questions about the film's [Aquarius] sexuality in Cannes, but they came from the press rather than audiences.
The way I see it, I belong to the film as any other department.
It makes sense that somebody told you that you made the film from your perspective as a father.
Everybody else is going to react differently to the film [Aquarius], but what I love about it is that both men and women are going to react to it because they will find themselves represented.
Generally I just pick music that I like. That's the part I really enjoy: When I get permission for the songs I want and put them into the scenes. It's always hard when you're doing a low-budget film, so it's great when you can get all the music you want to get.
I like doing personal films, after doing a bigger movie, I enjoy doing smaller, intimate films.
It's a whole other way of working when you work in films: You know exactly the arc of your character.
It was like in the film, when I was actually doing a take and wasn't quite sure of the context, and then in the completed film it works beautifully. In the end I didn't know why I felt so shitty doing it, and why it turns out great in the final product. I guess you have to live in that unknown.
In TV, film, and music there's a lot of snobbery, and I don't like it. I've never been a cultural snob.
I love con-men characters in film.
By using formula in filmmaking we are admitting that film is not art.
I'm no longer interested in being in big commercial films.
It's no accident that Tony Hopkins is a wonderful film actor.
I moved to LA and decided to do films and television, mainly because the theater in New York is totally dead.
When you're a woman in your 40s, it's not the best time to do films, because there really aren't that many roles. Then you reach 50 and there are more roles again. Mother parts.
I would love to do films - ones that get seen.
I read the comics long before I was ever involved with the films.
I would say, while I think audiences are savvy enough, I think that the effects work in the teaser is quite a bit more than presentable. I think they look good and representative of the film. The harder thing with the teaser, interestingly enough is, how much to show.
A few performances have been left out of the various Woodstock soundtracks and film edits over the years, most notably The Grateful Dead.
My films are motivated by a keen interest in highlighting issues that affect marginalized populations who are caught in difficult circumstances.
I love film. I'm a movie buff. So it really does pique my interest. For me, it all kinda bleeds together. The music, dance, the film, the cinematic effect ... and then I love comedy. And so I'd like to put it all together and then make something.
The thing that is most important is to feel like you're at the front of the line, to be prime or primer. I definitely never wanted to say that in the films, but that's where it comes from.
Film is a collaborative process, absolutely, but I am a control freak.
I will be making films, and I'm going to keep working, no matter what I have to do. And I don't plan to ever ask for permission from anybody.
My favorite films are the ones that I walk away from and I know I saw a story.
