Limitless and immortal, the waters are the beginning and end of all things on earth.
The real treasure, that which we all seek, is never very far; there is no real need to seek it in a distant place, for it lies buried within our own hearts. And yet, there is this strange and persistent fact that it is only after a journey in a distant region, in a new land, that the way to that treasure becomes clear.
My friend Heinrich Zimmer of years ago used to say, 'The best things can't be told,' because they transcend thought. 'The second best are misunderstood,' because those are the thoughts that are supposed to refer to that which can't be thought about, and one gets stuck in the thoughts. 'The third best are what we talk about.'
Knowledge is the reward of action. For it is by doing things that one becomes transformed. Suffering its consequences, one fathoms and exhausts its contents.
The best things can't be told.
