I'm from a singing family, but they're not professional singers, only gospel - my grandfather was a minister. I started to sing the music that was out then because my mother used to play it all the time. It was the end of the '50s, the beginning of the '60s. There was Frankie Lyman and the Teenagers, Etta James... We used to sit outside on the stoop and sing. We even used to put our radios and record players outside.
I feel like I have everything else as far as being creative and athletic. But it's the little things that's going to push me over, like ball-handling, passing, boxing out when I'm setting screens. Little things like that that you would overlook that can make me a complete player.
Concussion? How the hell can they tell? They're *football* players, for chrissakes!
My aim is to play as many games as possible and to go out and be one of the 11 players again.
It is not overwhelmingly difficult for a committed group of players with only average individual basketball skills to put together a very good team defense.
Supporters have every divine right to slag your players off when they're not winning games.
Always have your players go and pick-up the guy who draws the charge.
The only way we will be going to Europe is if the club splash out and take us all to EuroDisney.
My agent says that I'm a "repeat business guy." If you hire me to come do a movie, I'll be on time, know all my material, be ready to go, have a good attitude. I'm here to work, so I get hired over and over again by the same producers. If you just be a team player on set you can work so much more often.
I'm not a golf player. I think golf and fishing are the same, but at the end of the day, you can't fry up and golf ball and dip it in tartar sauce. So I'm a fisherman.
I like to breed players that attack people.
The last time I saw something that tall standing so still for so long, it was perched on the edge of a cliff shining a light across the sea.
I expect [Donald] Trump to do what he's done very successfully, which is, whether you like him or not, he will be the dominant player .
I spent so much time in my bedroom. It really was my entire world. I had books up there, my music up there, my record player. Going from my world upstairs out onto the street, I had to pass through this no-man's-land of the living room, you know, and out the front hall.
When I was 9 years old, I wanted to be the baritone sax player in the Little Richard band.
That goal [in the 1998 World Cup] changed me-not as a person, but as a player. People have looked at me differently ever since. It gave me confidence and now I feel I can achieve anything.
The only players that are having fun are those having a good year, feasting on pitching or blowing down hitters and garnering all the adulation that goes with it. But, if you're not hitting or not throwing well, or are injured, you better look for fun someplace else.
Anybody can be good when things are going good, but a real player steps up when things are going bad.
A complacent player is a lazy player, and a lazy player is a loser.
James Brown opened at least six of our House of Blues clubs. He always delivered, but he demanded the respect of an emperor. But, come on, he's James Brown ! ... I got to play on stage with him. Did he ever fine me ? (Brown was known to fine players for flubbing notes or steps) - I would have loved to have been fined by James Brown !
There are so many great players walking the planet but it is rare to find musicians that can live life together in a way that isn't ego centric. For whatever reason, musicians are just bizarrely composed humans. I think I'm living in the middle of a miracle.
Louis Armstrong changed all the brass players around, but after Bird, all of the instruments had to change - drums, piano, bass, trombones, trumpets, saxophones, everything.
I'm always learning from experiences because each one is different and there are different players involved in the project at the time with their own way of doing things
What I really try to do is take different pages out of different players books.
One of the main coaching points I've heard throughout my entire life is, 'How you respond to difficult situations defines your character,' and I think it's a good saying. I also think it applies to more than just the players.
